This museum is proposed to be a home for Savannah’s memories: a witness to the narrative of the city, a place to store its stories. Seven artifacts were chosen to represent the lore of Savannah. The site, located on Factor’s Walk, the former home of Savannah’s cotton exchange, has its own story to tell. To honor that, spaces that house the functions of the museum maintain the building’s unique angles, while the “story” spaces are carved out with curvilinear gestures. A central atrium houses the building’s stylized spirit tree, capturing any errant haints (evil spirits) that enter the building while also serving as a wayfinding device for the exhibition spaces.
