The Slow Stitch is a textile arts center located in Savannah, Georgia. Inspired by the work of Natalie Chanin and her company, Alabama Chanin, the center is dedicated to preserving and promoting fiber arts and includes facilities for sewing, weaving, dying, and printing, as well exhibition and library spaces. Design decisions were guided by the concept "sustainably celebrating craft to slowly reveal culture" and followed the principles of slow design--local, artisanal, and hand-crafted. Furnishings and finishes are American-made and locally-sourced where possible, while the material choices speak to the building's history as a metal fabrication shop as well as its present textile incarnation.
